John York - Incompetent or just plain stupid?

I won't be naive and pretend to be shocked by this. However it seems like every day York is associated with something more stupid than the day before. I'd like to do a full analysis of the guy but it would change every day with another example of his incompetence as an NFL owner. Makes you appreciate that he put Nolan in charge of EVERYTHING on the field.

With all due respect: what's so bad about what York "did"? I'm not going to go digging for articles, but I've always thought from day one that there was going to be backup plans.

What good businessman/woman would put all effort into one plan, and not prepare an exit route? If they had negotiated "in good faith" with San Francisco, and San Francisco alone, when the plans finally fell through, they'd have to start anew in Santa Clara. By starting discussions with Santa Clara, it was essentially just setting up your escape plan.

I'm not a York supporter by any means, as I think it has been HE himself that has taken the 49ers to the cellar, but I can't fault him for working on a contingency plan. The city and the team have had years to work on a new stadium, and regardless of who's at fault (for the stadium not being built already), if the city really wanted the team to stay, it should have made a better effort.

Besides, this is just another example of how naive the city has been in believing they controlled where the 49ers play. As if the city owned a share of the team and they'd get to decide if the team moves or stays.

I have no problem coming up with alternatives. My problem with York is that he doesn't seem to understand the whole concept of public relations. It's his team (or actually his wife's team) and he can do what he wants. However, I think he needs a lesson or two in tact. I'm slowly starting to put together my own analysis of the York-Debartolo ownership since Eddie stepped down. It'll be opinionated but I want to be able to have plenty of legitimate backup for the opinions.
